How to Compress a PDF Online with EcrioX
- Upload your PDF: Drag and drop your document into the box or click "Select PDF File".
- Select a Compression Preset: Choose between "Recommended" for a balance of file size and visual sharpness, "High" for smaller email attachments, or "Lossless" to optimize structural streams without modifying embedded images.
- Click Compress: The browser immediately analyzes object dictionaries, downsamples bloated scan layers, and re-encodes binary streams.
- Download: Save your newly compressed, lightweight PDF directly to your device.
How In-Browser PDF Compression Works
Unlike legacy utility sites that transfer your private documents to third-party cloud servers, EcrioX executes document optimization locally on your machine using pdf-lib and Mozilla's PDF.js engine.
When you compress a document:
- Stream Compression: Uncompressed cross-reference tables and object streams are repacked into modern Flate-compressed object streams (`/ObjStm`).
- Orphan Object & Metadata Removal: Redundant application signatures, obsolete undo-history revisions, and duplicated fonts are pruned.
- High-DPI Image Optimization: High-resolution scanned pages and photo attachments are resampled to balanced DPI levels while retaining crisp vector text.
- Searchable Text Preservation: We never rasterize entire text pages into blurry snapshots. Your document remains fully selectable, searchable, and compliant with PDF standards.
Supported Formats and Limitations
This tool accepts standard PDF files up to 100MB. If a PDF is already tightly compressed (such as plain text contracts or documents saved with Adobe Acrobat's maximum compression settings), the achievable percentage reduction will naturally be minimal. We provide honest feedback if your document cannot be safely shrunk further without degrading readability.
